What happens to airways in your lungs when exposed to certain triggers?

Certain triggers can narrow the airways, making it hard to breathe. There are 3 main factors that cause the airways to become narrow:
  • The muscle around the airways tightens (bronchoconstriction)
  • Extra mucus (sticky fluid) may be produced
  • The inside lining of the airways becomes swollen (inflammation)
